What is Poker?

Poker is a card game using a deck of 52 cards. Each game begins with each person being dealt an individual card and then everyone is dealt a community card. The game includes betting rounds.

Players bet depending on the amount of money they have and the strength of their cards. At the end of the final betting round, the remaining players will turn over their cards to determine who has the strongest card and will be the winner.

Poker terminology

Different types of poker players

  • Aggressive: An aggressive player. These people frequently place and increase their bets.
  • Tight: Play tight and only play strong hands.
  • Loose: A person who plays many hands.
  • Passive: Only the player always speaks passively.
  • High call and check rates, low bet and raise rates.

Poker position

  • Dealer: 

Dealer. In a professional casino, each table has its own dealer, not a dealer. In small impromptu card playing groups, players can also take turns being the dealer.

The person who sits in the dealer’s position and is the last person to act in any betting round other than the first.

  • Small Blind (SB): 

The player is behind the dealer. – Bet amount. This amount is usually half the big blind or the player’s total if the amount remaining on the table is less than the SB.

  • Big Blind (BB): 

The amount of money that the second player to the dealer’s left must bet when dealing a new card. BB is usually twice the size of SB.

  • Early Positio: 

A seat in a betting round in which a player must act first among those remaining at the table.

  • Dealer Button (button):

The small symbol is circular and usually has the letter D on the front. After each hand, the buttons move clockwise from player to player to determine the dealer’s position for the new hand.

Poker card actions

Flat call: Only call if your hand is strong enough to raise.

Cold Call: Call when someone bets and someone else raises.

Open: Open bets.

Limp: Join the game by calling the bet instead of calling.

For example: Raise before the flop and continue betting on the flop.

Slow play: Play slowly with strong cards to trap your opponent.
